OUR latest piece of brilliance
Caterpillar Creative is an enterprising think tank comprising the imaginative talents of two of the North Coasts most expressive and artistic minds.
The company’s genesis sparked when film maker Terry Bleakley and acclaimed visual artist Samantha Wortelhock collaborated on a series of creative projects which capitalised on their individual talents and shared values. Their creative chemistry led to highly original ideas resulting in them developing unique concepts for film, television, advertising and marketing.
Both Sam and Terry have a passion for the Australian landscape and share a desire through their creative pursuits to help bridge the cultural gap. This work has attracted the endorsement of many indigenous people including some high profile Australians such as Kev Carmody, Tania Major and Bill Yidumduma Harney.
Terry and Samantha’s individual work has been defined by originality, humour and an ability to attract the attention of a mass audience. Together, they apply these qualities in the production of ground breaking and unforgettable concepts.
Caterpillar Creative specialise in developing interesting, quirky and distinctively Australian characters, loved by children and adults alike. Our storylines are highly entertaining, funny and have an underlying psychology embraced by educators, parents and children.
Caterpillar Creative engage the graphic talents of Terry’s son Raymond Bleakley for illustration and logo design.
Current productions include:
• Concept document for a 26 half hour children’s TV series based around stories by indigenous singer songwriter and Elder statesman Kev Carmody.
• Concept document for a 26 half hour children’s TV series based on the adventures of a young girl who explores the Australian landscape with a young Aboriginal boy.
• Concept document for a 26 half hour children’s TV series based on a loveable creature, the Gundarimby Monster.
• Development of a feature length script based on the survival of a group of people fleeing from chaos on the Australian Coast created by climate change and the global financial meltdown.
• Logo design and original concepts for a marketing campaign for a developer of a new large rural residential estate.
• Copy writing for a weekly article in a regional newspaper for an interior designer.
• Development of concepts based on Sam’s paintings and accompanying poetry, particularly for in-flight entertainment.
The Caterpillar Creative team understand the importance and value of original and engaging ideas to marketing initiatives and strategies.

My name is SAMANTHA WORTELHOCK
Samantha Wortelhock began her career in the 1980s advertising industry boom in London. In 1989 she arrived in Australia and fell in love with the varied landscapes and began to paint.
Her career as a visual artist, un-trained, has been highly successful in terms of the popularity of her art and awareness of her brand. In 1991 Samantha drove out to Uluru and met with the management of the Yulara Sheraton. This meeting resulted in the genesis of the Mulgara Gallery which continues to thrive today.
In 1993 Sam opened a gallery exclusive to her artwork and that of her husband Damien Naughton in Sydney's iconic Queen Victoria Building. The gallery ran successfully for ten years and launched a world wide awareness of a unique collection of paintings and their accompanying stories. The prices for Sam's paintings are comparable with Australia's most acclaimed artists and price was purely dictated by supply and demand. The unique inceptions, infectious humour and evocative audience response was the critical factor in the arts' success. Australia Post published a book of Sam and Damien's paintings called "My Country" in 1995.
The most important testament for Sam is the response she has received from indigenous Australians, both the sung and unsung. There is a respect for the fact that her work intends, and is effective in, bridging the cultural gap. The likes of Tania Major, Bill Yidumduma Harney (for whom Sam has painted 4 works for two books about the Stellar Songlines and Customary Law) and Kev Carmody all endorse the messages in her work.
In 2002 Sam was contacted by a Melbourne based script writer (Monty Python script writer) to co-write a script for a feature length digital animated film based on one of Sam's paintings. This collaboration was mutually rewarding and set Sam on a passionate path to write and direct her insatiable imagination in to script concepts.
Samantha also volunteers her time in schools, motivating children to apply their imaginations to enhance all aspects of their lives. This work has had remarkable results with children across the academic spectrum.

My name is TERRY BLEAKLEY
Terry Bleakley gained valuable life experience as a planner for many years in an Australian Government corporation. Having received an award for “Lateral Thinking and Creative Cash Flow Analysis’, Terry realised that there would eventually be a more appropriate outlet for his imagination other than for using it to get dodgy projects approved.
In 2002, Terry created Bleak Films, a video production business operated from his studio on the NSW Far North Coast. From here, he has written, directed, filmed and edited many short films, documentaries, music video clips, concert performances, television commercials, instructional DVD’s, weddings, parties, anything!
Terry has worked for the Catholic Education Office producing training and other material for teachers. He has also provided material for the National Parks and Wildlife Service, Native Title Tribunal, and other semi-government agencies.
Some of the short films written and directed by Terry have been awarded at festivals, including the Harvest International Film Festival in Victoria in 2007. He has also had some of his film footage used in an Australian Story on the ABC.
Terry’s work has been described as humourous and ‘quirky’, although he has tackled many serious subjects in his documentaries such as post-natal depression, and surviving sexual abuse.
"As an artist, Terry enables me to have full creative freedom while
flying beside me as a creative force of immense magnitude. He is a
man of generosity, a man I observed for years in our small community
who shone as someone who, without question, stands by his fellow man.
He is magnetic, a natural leader and these values are evident in his success as a family and business figure. One of the things I most appreciate in Terry, is his love of the ocean and his need to connect with it on a daily basis. For me this form of meditation is proof of his relationship with the natural world. An essential element in the work we do together."
